The Disease You Cannot Feel

Gum disease rarely hurts, which is why it is usually well advanced before anyone notices it. Bleeding when you brush is not normal, and for most people it is the only early warning they ever get.

Caught while it is still inflammation, it reverses completely. Once bone has been lost it cannot be grown back, but it can be stopped, and stopping it is what keeps teeth in place for the rest of your life.

Understanding Gum Disease

Gum disease is often painless, which means many people don’t realise they have it. However, common warning signs include red, swollen gums, bleeding during brushing or flossing, persistent bad breath, and receding gums that make teeth appear longer. There are two primary stages of gum disease:

Gingivitis: The earliest stage, characterised by gum inflammation due to plaque build-up. If caught early, gingivitis can be reversed, preventing it from progressing into periodontitis.

Periodontitis: An advanced form of gum disease that can severely damage the gums and supporting bone structure. If untreated, it can cause teeth to shift or become loose, eventually leading to tooth loss.

Protect and Restore Your Gum Health with Comprehensive Treatments

Full periodontal assessment

We measure the pocket depth around every tooth, record where the gum bleeds, and take x-rays to see how much bone is left. That gives us a baseline rather than an impression.

The diagnosis, explained

You see your own numbers and what they mean: which teeth are stable, which are losing support, and how much of it is within your control.

Cleaning below the gum line

The root surfaces are cleaned under local anaesthetic, quadrant by quadrant, to remove the deposits the inflammation is feeding on.

Technique that fits your mouth

Interdental brushes sized to your own gaps, and coaching aimed at the specific sites that keep bleeding rather than at brushing in general.

Re-assessment

We measure again a few weeks later and compare. If the numbers have improved we move to maintenance; if they have not, we change the plan.

Your gums are the foundation of a healthy, vibrant smile, and maintaining their health is essential not only for your teeth but for your overall well-being. We offer a range of gum treatments, from preventative care to advanced procedures, ensuring your gums stay in the best possible condition. Whether you’re dealing with early-stage gingivitis or more advanced periodontitis, our expert team will guide you through a tailored treatment plan designed to halt the progression of gum disease and restore your gum health. We use state-of-the-art techniques and modern technology to deliver comfortable, effective care that protects your gums for the long term.

Our Approach To Gum Treatment

Gum treatment is measured, not estimated. We chart the pockets around every tooth before we start and again afterwards, so you can see whether it worked rather than take our word for it.

Most of the result comes from what happens at home between appointments, so the coaching is aimed at your problem sites rather than handed out as generic advice.

Your Gum Treatment Questions, Answered

No. Healthy gums do not bleed, however firmly you brush. Bleeding means inflammation, and inflammation is the stage at which gum disease is still completely reversible.

Inflammation without bone loss reverses fully. Once bone has gone it cannot be regrown, but the disease can be stopped and the remaining support kept stable for decades. Which of the two you have is exactly what the measurements tell us.

Cleaning below the gum line is done under local anaesthetic, so the appointment itself is comfortable. The gums can be tender for a day or two afterwards, and teeth may feel more sensitive for a few weeks as the inflammation settles.

Sometimes teeth feel slightly looser at first, because swollen gum was holding them snugly. As the inflammation goes down the tissue tightens again. Genuine mobility from bone loss is a different thing, and we will have told you about it beforehand.

After the initial treatment we measure again and decide from the numbers, often every three months at first and stretching out once things are stable. Gum disease is managed, not cured and forgotten.
